Ollie Virginia (Fern) Bland, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 28, 2025. Virginia was born on January 5, 1935, in Virginia and was the daughter of Scott and Evelyn (Lowery) Fern.
On July 1, 1950, at the young age of 15, she wed Ralph Douglas Bland. They settled down starting a family by welcoming 5 children. As Virginia so enjoyed seeing her children run around, seek out curiosity, grow, and mature, she and Ralph decided staying at home to tend to their every need was the best employment she could find. Throughout the children's lives, she taught them and learned from them patience, kindness, abounding love, warmth, and care. She was always present in the children's lives and they fondly remember their mom being the most precious mother, full of wisdom, and dividing her time equally between them all. Just as important as family was to Virginia, so was her faith in Jesus Christ. For many years she was a devote member of Victory Independent Baptist Church. Virginia wrote poetry and sang old hymns, loved watching old Western movies, cheered on the Colts and Pacers, and loved to watch the birds feed from the birdfeeder Ralph hung outside of their window.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Ralph Bland; their 5 children: James (Sue) Bland, Delores (Danny) Simmons, Eva (Duane) Corley, Tim (Angie) Bland, and Donna Bland; 10 grandchildren: Rhonda Bland, David Dixon, Nichole Bland, Cheri (Jeremy) Azevedo, Jeff (Tiffany) Dixon, Brian (Erin) Bland, Christopher (Carissa) Bland, Chantal (Jeremy) Williams, Kendra Bland and Kaylee Bland (John Botset); 18 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren + 1 on-the-way.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister and a brother.
