Raymond Daniel Sturm

Raymond Daniel Sturm, age 88 passed on December 14, 2022.  Those who had the joy of knowing him will remember his witty humor, faithfulness, loyalty, strong work ethic and loving commitment to his church and family. In addition, his children will treasure the memories of a loving, kind father who was involved and kept his promises.

Ray was born on March 11, 1934, in Lake Zurich, IL. After high school, he was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean Conflict. He married Mary (Skip) Elizabeth Trowbridge on January 25, 1958. Upon completing his degree in Accounting at the University of Illinois, they settled in Indianapolis. Ray spent most of his career as comptroller at Bunzl/Capital Consolidated. Later he joined the staff of Disciples Church Extension Fund (Disciples of Christ). His professional life was characterized by his hard work, strong accounting and finance skills, no nonsense direction and commitment to excellence. He always considered his "real" job to be taking care of his family. After retirement, then widowed, he met Mary Cecilia, and they married in 2002, enjoying a wonderful 20 years together traveling and volunteering at Community Hospital and The Sharing Place Food Pantry.

Ray is proceeded in death by his parents, Daniel and Rose, his first wife of 40 years Mary Elizabeth, and his grandson Caleb Michael Sturm.

He is survived by his wife Mary Cecilia, and his 5 children, Susan (Chris) French, Kimm (Brad) Hole, Craig (Kathy) Sturm, Kristin (David) Hilbish, and Jonathan (Jenny) Sturm. Also missing him will be his 19 grandchildren and his 10 great grandchildren. He leaves a brother, Kenneth (Joan) Sturm, many nieces and nephews and in-laws Carol and Dave Withrow, Virginia and Jim Allison, and Bonnie Trowbridge who cherish memories made with Ray.

There will be a memorial for Ray's life on Saturday February 4, 2023 at Geist Christian Church, 8550 Mud Creek Rd 46256. Family greeting 10-11 AM, Service 11-12AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's honor by designating The Sharing Place Food Pantry at lutheranfamily.org/how-to-help/.
