Richard "Dick" L. Rather

Richard L. "Dick" Rather, Sr. age 91 of Greenfield passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, in Greenfield. He was born September 6, 1931, in Indianapolis to the late John and Vera (McCabe) Rather. Dick attended New Palestine High School and served in the U.S. Army as Military Police.

Prior to his retirement, Dick was employed by Chrysler Automotive, Indiana. Dick was an avid car and gun enthusiast and enjoyed fishing. He was active in jail and prison ministry for many years.

Dick is survived by his children; Richard (Janet) Rather, Jr., Randy (Terry) Rather, Rick (Shyla) Rather, and Kim (Mike) Raffaelli; grandchildren; Levi Payne, Ashley Payne, Ethan Cottey, Chasity Groce, Sirena Rather, Natasha, William Rather, Kyrstin Rather, and Josh McDonald; several great grandchildren; and brother; Paul (LaDonna) Rather.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Showalter) Rather, son, Ronnie Rather, and sister, Barbara Tabor.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Park Cemetery, 621 South State Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Military rites provided by Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
