Dr. Robert Anthony Sauter December 19, 1925 - December 20, 2006
Dr. Robert Anthony Sauter, DVM, age 81 years, a resident of Indianapolis passed away December 20, 2006 at Community Hospital North.
He was born December 19, 1925 in New York, NY and is the son of the late Alfred E. & Amelia T. (Reiger) Sauter.
Robert, "Bob," grew up in Bronxville, New York and graduated from the New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University in 1947. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After graduation he worked at the ASPCA Hospital in New York City. Bob then joined the US Army and served during the Korean War as a Captain in the Veterinary Corps. He was stationed in Omaha, NE where he met his wife, Norma and married in 1950. He was then stationed in Japan for a year as Commander of the 99th VFID.
After returning to the States he joined Corn State Laboratories in Omaha. Corn States was bought by Eli Lilly and Company and Bob started a rewarding 32 year career in positions of Director of Biological Operations, Dry Products Operations, Parenteral Products and Director of Scientific Regulatory Affairs with Elizabeth Arden before retiring in 1989.
Bob was a 40-year member of Hillcrest Country Club and enjoyed golf immensely. He was very active with the Kiwanis Club of Meridian Hills and was a founding member, past club president, past Kiwanian of the Year, Tablet of Honor member and a Hixson Fellow. He had many friends with the club. Bob was a big supporter of the Alzheimers Association of Central Indiana and was on the Board of Directors.
Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather known for his generosity and kind nature. He touched the lives of the many people he met and enjoyed life to the end.
Survivors include his son Bradley R. (wife Cathy) Sauter of Sheridan, grandchildren, Amelia R. and Andrew R. Sauter both of Sheridan, companion, Peggy Evans of Indianapolis, nieces, Dr. Elizabeth Sauter of Wilton, CT, Pamela Erickson of Coon Rapids,
MN, nephew, Bill Sauter of Hilton Head Island, SC, and sister-in-law and husband, Dr. Robert and Evelyn Warner of Grand Forks, ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife Norma E. (Skelbeck) Sauter in 2001, and his brothers Alfred and Walter Sauter.
Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday December 27, 2006 at the Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center in Broad Ripple. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
