Robert H. Strickland May 21, 1928 - September 16, 2009
Robert H. Strickland, 81, of Greenfield, IN died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Hancock Regional Hospital, Greenfield.
Born May 21, 1928 in Greenfield, he was the son of Richard H. and Madge (Leamon) Strickland.
He had been employed by the Greenfield Banking Company for 43 years and was its president from 1987 to 1993, when he retired.
He was a graduate of Greenfield High School and attended Butler University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Thata fraternity. He also attended the Graduate School of Banking, Madison, WI, and the National Trust School, Evanston, IL.
He served on the Greenfield City Council from 1972 to 1984
He was a director of the Boys and Girls Club, the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, Hancock County Community Foundation, Riley Festival, Greenfield Country Club, American Cancer Society Hancock County Unit and the Hancock County advisory committee of Family Service Association. He served on many other local civic committees and organizations.
He belonged to the Greenfield Elks Lodge and Friends of the Library and served as president of the Greenfield Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife, Margot (Harrison) Strickland, whom he married on October 10, 1948; sons, Thomas (Joyce) of Greenfield, Timothy, of Fortville, and Matthew (Nancy) of Fortville; a sister, Rebecca (Ralph) Pernice of Augusta, MI; three grandchildren, Emily Adam and Jake; and two great granddaughters, Olivia and Marly.
