Ronald D. Horning

Ronald D. Horning, age 74, of Greenfield passed away, Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in, Indianapolis. Ron was born February 13, 1947 in Connersville, Indiana to the late Oscar and Dorothy (Bostic) Horning. Ron was a graduate of Connersville High School where he is remembered by many as a great basketball player, lettering 3 consecutive years. He continued his education at Oakland City College. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1970's and married Becky (Olson) on October 6, 1973. Together they made their home and raised their family in Greenfield. Ron was an associate of the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County for 7 years prior to accepting the role of Executive Director where he enjoyed mentoring Hancock County's youth for almost 20 years. After his retirement, Ron kept busy as a Real Estate agent for Re-Max Realty. In 2006 he was elected to the position of Center Township Trustee, a position he held until December 2020. Actively involved, Ron was a member of the American Legion Post #152 in Knightstown, Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Greenfield, the Sertoma Foster Grandparent Program, the Set A Good Example Foundation, and a volunteer for Hancock Regional Hospital. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed all sports. All who knew Ron will remember him as a kind man with a heart of gold. He gave of himself, especially to the youth of Hancock County. He is survived by his sons, Jason (Jama) Horning, Eric (Heather Holden) Horning; brother, Monte Horning; grandchildren, Nick Belonias, Drew (Maddy) Horning, Makenzie Horning, Ryker Horning, Alex, Maddie and Riley Tinnel. He is preceded in death by his wife Becky in 2006, his parents, Oscar and Dorothy Horning, and siblings, Darrell, Cheryl and Lanny Horning. Visitation will be held 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, February 22, 2021 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield. Funeral service, 11:00 am, Tuesday at Brandywine Community Church, 1551 E. New Road, Greenfield, Indiana. Burial immediately following service at Park Cemetery, Greenfield with military rites provided by the Knightstown American Legion Honor Guard. Masks are required and social distancing observed.
