Roza Segovia (Thomas) Proctor, 82, Indianapolis, transitioned into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 16, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Roza was born out of the union of Gregorja Manuel Segovia and Adelana (Torres) Thomas, on October 15, 1941, in Indianapolis. She is a 1960 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School, Indianapolis. She married Ray Evertt Proctor in November 1971.
Although born in the 1940s, Roza was a dedicated 1950s type of gal, enjoying dance parties, listening to the gossip on Bearcat radios, cooking, and gardening. Moreover, she was extremely feisty, a true spitfire, held no tongue, and loved to joke and laugh. She always had fun with family, friends, and strangers. Speaking of strangers….she knew none. She would speak to anyone about anything for hours; even her beloved cat, Ace. Roza fully embraced her Hispanic American cultures and traditions. But, so did she with the British/English cultures. Roza followed everything Royal family. And she loved the boyband musical group, BTS, from across the seas. She had a sweet-tooth that was fueled by donuts and candy. She also had cravings for White Castle. She loved plants, crocheting, and animals. In Roza's younger years, she was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church. In Roza's adult years, she was a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, often volunteering for multiple activities and festivals. In Roza's professional career, she was a machine operator in bookbinding for Rand-McNally for 25 years. She was a member of Local 303, Binder Union and Graphic Arts. After bookbinding, Roza transitioned to Power Logistics-Walmart Distribution for 10 years.
As Roza had two young children when she met U.S. Army veteran, Ray Proctor, they all effortlessly melded together to form a family. Ray helped raise, educate, guide, and love Greg and Christina throughout their young lives and well into their adult lives. Both Greg and Christina expressed that they learned valuable traits, characteristics, values, ethics, humor, and acceptance of others from both mom and dad, Ray. Roza is survived by her partner-in-crime son, Greg (Becky) Bastin; loving daughter and caretaker for over 20 years, Christina (Will) Massey; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings: Josephine Cline, Mary Sullivan, Amelia McCormick, Margaret Weaver, Louise Murray, Phil Thomas, and Ralph Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.
Roza was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Proctor; brother, Louis Thomas; sister, Theresa Love; and beloved cat, Ace.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 11636 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, with the service following at 12:00 noon, officiated by her comedic son, Greg, and a few other level-headed family members. Entombment will be in Washington Park East, Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to Roza and Ray's caretaker, Christina Massey, with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
