Sonnie Barnes

Sonnie Barnes, 83 years old, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2026. Sonnie was born on June 5, 1942, in Moss City, Tenn., to the late A. Raymond and Stella (Cross) Barnes.

Sonnie retired in 2005 from Ford Motor Company after 35 years, as a heat treat furnace operator. He loved to tinker with lawn mowers, enjoyed mowing his grass, helping friends with projects, taking care of friends/family and was an avid story teller.

Sonnie is survived by his loving children; Justin (Gina) Barnes and Connie (Keith) Stillabower, grandchildren; Ricky (Natalie) Barnes, Ronnie (Jaycie) Barnes, Justin Barnes, Jr., Abigale (Craig) Thiel, granddaughter-in-law, Haley Barnes, great-grandchildren; Judith Barnes, Robin Barnes, Jordan Barnes, Jackson Barnes, Atticus Thiel, Quinn Thiel, Cassius Thiel, step-children; Glenn Lee McKim, Terry Wayne McKim, Lisa Marie McKim, step-grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) McKim, Ashley (Jonathan) Maleckar, Jaylee McKim, Bethany Earl, Kyle Earl, Brandon Earl, Cathy Kraning, Mirinda Moss, step great-grandchildren; Lucas McKim, Parker Maleckar, Isaac McKim, Lukas Lett, Emma Moss, Miles Maleckar, nieces and nephews. Sonnie also leaves behind special friends, Ronnie Redman, Steve Campbell, John Vaughn and his beloved cat, Ms. Purdy.

Sonnie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Hazel Barnes, son, Ricky Barnes, sister, Aline Wilmoth and grandson, Justin Barnes.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m., at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 W. Main Street, Greenfield, with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Greenfield. The family asks for visitors to wear your favorite Ford or U.A.W. shirt in honor of Sonnie.
