Steven Ray Gaines

Steven Ray Gaines, 67, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and family. He now rests with his Lord Jesus Christ. Steven was born on January 21, 1957, in Indianapolis, IN to Charles and Thelma Gaines, the middle child of seven.

Steven graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1974 to 1977, where he was a dental technician. In 1981, Steven married the love of his life, Tamara Bartlett Gaines. Together they raised their daughter, Amanda. Steven was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and papa to his grandchildren and he will be greatly missed.

He was a sports fanatic, his favorite team being the Colts. He loved watching IU and Pacers basketball as well as competing in fantasy football. He enjoyed chess, fishing, attending church, and spending as much time with his grandchildren as possible. He was passionate about politics and current events, never missing a chance to discuss and engage with friends and family.

Steven is survived by his wife, Tamara Gaines; daughter Amanda Holmes and her husband, Jon; two grandchildren, Layla, 12 and Lyle, 7; Three brothers, Jim, John and Gary; two sisters, Debbie Smith and her husband, David, and Jane Thompson and her husband David.

He was preceded by his parents, and his brother Richard.

A service will be held for Steven on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home in Greenfield, IN. Visitation will begin at 1:00
