Suzanne Dettwiler May 13, 1915 - May 14, 2007 Suzanne (Sue) Dettwiler, 92, died Monday, May 14, 2007, at The Forum at Woodfield Crossing in Indianapolis, Ind. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m., June 9, at the Pasco- Stillinger Funeral Home, 1780 W. Main Street, Greenfield. Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., June 9, at Pasco- Stillinger. Sue was born May 13, 1915, in Mount Vernon, Ind. to Robert V. and Alma Wasem Stinson. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a masters degree at The Ohio State University. She married Herman A. (Dett) Dettwiler on July 2, 1940, in Mount Vernon. Survivors include her brother, Robert L. (Bruzz) Stinson, Mount Vernon; her children, Gretchen Monti, Bloomington, Ill., Ann, Indianapolis, Richard, Bloomington, Ind., John, Spencer, IN. Also surviving are family members Joe Monti and Richard Casebeer; grandchildren Michael and David Monti, Lindsay and Jessie Dettwiler; and four great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter Margaret (Meg). Sue Dettwiler was a generous woman who gave her time, money and free kittens to the community. She became a Girl Scout leader soon after moving to Greenfield in 1940, and over the years volunteered for the Greenfield schools, Hancock County Public Library board of directors, Family Service and WFYI public television. In 1997 she was named a Sagamore of the Wabash in recognition of her community service. She was a patron of the symphony, art museum and zoo in Indianapolis and enjoyed singing in the Presbyterian Church choir in Greenfield. Sue was a member of Tri Kappa, Book Mark and Greenfield Country Club. She loved nature and enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends.
