Thomas Hild

Thomas “Tom” Edward Hild, 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. He was born on September 26, 1940, in Indianapolis to the late John R. and Elsie L. (Dillon) Hild.

Tom attended Lincoln Technical College, where he studied automotive trades before beginning his career as an auto mechanic with Chuck Callahan Ford and Burd Ford. Outside of work, he was a member of the Old Time Vintage Racing Club and an avid racing enthusiast. He enjoyed working on anything with an engine, loved to learn, and was always tinkering with something. Tom was blessed to marry into a large family and loved each member. He enjoyed photographing and recording family events, meeting his close friends every Thursday at Charlie Browns, and was known for being smart, hardworking, reliable, kind, and opinionated.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Shannon (Sparks) Hild, whom he married on June 9, 1973; son, Jason (Kelly) Hild; daughter, Christina (John) Spittler; grandchildren, Samuel Hild, Sarah Beare, Reid and Noelle Spittler; great-granddaughter, Ellie Beare; and his best friend, Michael Lynn; many sister in-laws, brother in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Hendryx Chapel, 11636 E. Washington Street, Cumberland, Indiana 46229. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.
