Walter Wilson Lowder, age 97, of Hancock County passed away on September 24, 2016 at Hancock Regional Hospice. Walter was born on February 3, 1919 to the late Walter F. and Crystal (Wilson) Lowder.
Walter Lowder fought in WWII with the 110th Engineer Combat Battalion, 35th division, Amphibious Task Forces, Pacific Theatre Operations and XXIV Corps. He fought at Kiska on August 13, 1943, Leyte on October 20, 1944, and in Okinawa on April 1, 1945. Walter W. Lowder was a Technical Sergeant Headquarters on the 110th Engineers, beginning on December 1, 1941, and retired on November 9, 1945. Walter married the love of his life Marylin (Pasco) Lowder on September 30, 1942. He would later work at Eli Lilly as an engineer until his retirement in 1983. He was a member on the Greenfield VFW, and American Legion.
Walter is survived by his son, Kevin (Regina) Lowder of New Palestine; daughter, Patricia Turner of Tennessee; sister, Nancy Scurlock; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents listed above, wife Marylin (Pasco) Lowder, and brother Lloyd Lowder.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday September 28, 2016 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday September 29, 2016 at the funeral home, with burial immediately following at Arnett-Lowder Cemetery with military honors provided by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
