Walter "Twin" E. O'Brien February 4, 1924 - July 15, 2009 Walter "Twin" E. OBrien age 85 years, a resident of Greenfield passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Ellison House in Greenfield. He was born February 4, 1924, in Hendersonville, Kentucky to the late Ben and Myrtle (Winningham) OBrien. He graduated from Washington High School of Indianapolis and Butler University in 1950 where he was a member of the 1948-49 Butler Basketball Hall of Fame. He served his country during WW II in the US Navy on a Destroyer. Twin was a teacher, coach and administrator for many central Indiana schools, including, Sulphur Springs, Pittsboro, New Castle, North Vernon, Salem, Eastern Hancock as a Principal and North View Junior High. He also was a former agent for Franklin Life in Springfield, IL. He was a member of Bradley United Methodist Church, Elks Club, Lions Club, American Legion Post 119 all of Greenfield. He enjoyed singing and was an avid artist and painter who also had a passion for golf and spent much of his time at Hawks Tail where he was know by many as "The Ledge". Walter is survived by his wife Katie (McIntyre) OBrien of Greenfield whom he married August 7, 1949, twin daughters, Suzanne (Robert C.) Beeson of Indianapolis, Julianne (David) OBrien Stahl of Indianapolis, brother, Buckshot OBrien of Clearwater Beach, FL, 4 grandchildren, Keely Beeson Wathen, Oliver Beeson, Molly Beeson, Rachel OBrien Hunter, several nieces and nephews. Twin was preceded in death by his parents listed above, 5 brothers, one of whom was his twin, Waller OBrien and 6 sisters. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel with Rev. Wade Compton officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Friends may call Sunday, July 19, 2009 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
