William Daniel Stoner

August 3, 1927 — March 21, 2025

William Daniel Stoner, 97, Greenfield, passed into the arms of his heavenly father on Friday, March 21, 2025, as family were close by his side. Bill was born on August 3, 1927, in Carthage, IN, to Hosea Daniel and Faye Lucille (Moore) Stoner. Bill served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the early 1950's in the post-WWII occupation of Germany. Upon his return Stateside he learned to work hard by digging graves, working for local farmers and working for the railroad. He married the love of his life, Martha Ann Bradbury, on August 15, 1954.

As Bill and Martha started their family, Martha was a homemaker, raising their 5 children, while Bill worked outside the home for 40 years with General Motors Guide Lamp division, holding positions in die casting, painting, and robotics programming. He also enjoyed participating in the employee ideas program, in which he was awarded compensation for some of his improvement suggestions. He retired from GM in the spring of 1993. Throughout those 40 years of working in the auto industry, Bill would also support his family, in shearing sheep and building houses. He was a devoted husband and father who often found little that could not be fixed by his talented hands. Bill always made time for fun summer vacations with the family to regional destinations in the RV camper. Christmas and summer gatherings were always special due to many nieces, nephews, and cousins celebrating. He and Martha later traveled and took many trips to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Oregon, New Mexico, Florida, Texas and Wyoming. As Martha enjoyed vegetable canning, Bill was one step ahead of her in planting many varieties of vegetables and fruits within the sizable garden and yard. As Martha was also a strong advocate for the Mental Health Partners of Hancock County, Bill was alongside championing her and the program. Bill often agreed with Martha, stating, "I'll have what she's having", not only creating a harmonious relationship as caregivers to their children, but as partners in life, celebrating 70 years of marriage. Bill relished his duties in being a wonderful husband, a great dad, and an awesome grandfather. He, Martha, and the family attended Bradley United Methodist Church for many years.

Bill is survived by his loving children: LuAnn (Scott) Kramer, Sheree (Steve) Hamilton, Judy Stoner, Jeff (Mary) Stoner, and Sonya (Mark) Kramer; 11 special grandchildren; 8 awesome + 1 on-the-way great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; recent passing of his wife, Martha; grandmother, Clementine L. Stenger; and siblings: John Stoner, Kathleen Stoner, Elizabeth Barnhart, Martha Dobbins, Charles Stoner, and Robert Stoner.
